Made a Website? Then let Google know about it. Some people do this mistake of not registering their website to google Search Console. They create website, writes posts on it, customizes them, etc and then wait for visitors. But is it that simple to let visitors come to your site. The answer is NO. You need to manually inform google that you own a site and want visitors from organic search. Now how to do that, let’s see.
Go to the Google webmaster tool and create your account or log in with Google account.
Go to search console and add your website URL and click on Add Property.
Now you will be shown five options to verify that it’s your own website. Out of these the simplest is the HTML Tag option. So select that option and click on show example. Copy the whole thing (example).
Note:- Copy the code given for your website and not the one shown in the image. This is for the example.
Login to your WordPress dashboard. Go to Appearance and choose Editor option. Find Theme Header (header.php) option and select it. Normally enter once and paste the code (example) here and click on update file.
Warning:- Don’t change anything on the initial Editor page.
Go back to the Google search console tab and click on verify. Your website will get successfully verified.
So in these simple steps you can successfully register your website to Google search console. Now it is also important to submit your site map to google so that google can easily crawl your website. Let me guide you to it. I am marking it as step 6 for better understanding.
Go to your WordPress dashboard and install “google xml sitemap” and activate it. Go to settings option in your WordPress and choose xml sitemap.
Change the settings as per I have done and save it. Don’t skip this step as it is very important for your website to appear in search engines.
Now to generate sitemap scroll above and click on the link. It will take you to your website’s sitemap.
To submit it to the google, go to the google webmaster tool and choose sitemap option. Click on Add a sitmap option. Copy the last part of your sitemap URL (e.g. /sitemap.xml) and paste it there. For now it will show as pending but within 24 hours your sitemap will be submitted.
Congratulations you have successfully submitted your website and its sitemap to the Google. Now you don’t have to worry about the visitors. Just write your content and wait for people to appreciate it.
