The Weakness of the previous processors was the use of legacy arm cortex CPU cores. But fortunately in Helio P90 they have used the new generation DyanmIQ CPU cores. The Chipset is made using 12 nm process having Octa core setup. The company has switched from four heavy cores to two heavy cores to increase efficiency in loading apps. The two high Powered cores work on 2.2 GHz based on the Arm Cortex A-75 design. The Cortex A-75 is not the Arm’s latest high Powered core as Cortex A-76 has already adopted by Huawei devices. Mediatek seems to use Cortex A-76 in their upcoming processors. The other Six low Powered cores works on 2.0 GHz based on Arm Cortex A-55 design.
The GPU of Mediatek Helio P90 has a clock speed of 970 MHz and named as PowerVR GM 9446. It supports Dual channel LPDDR 4X and ram upto 8 GB. Mediatek Helio P90 has a connectivity of dual 4G VoLTE with a download speed of category 12 and upload speed of category 13. Mediatek claims that Helio P90 will give fifty percent better performance then the previous ones.
The cameras that are the major highlight of the smartphones, Helio P90 supports a single camera upto 48 MP or dual cameras combination of 24 MP + 16 MP. Burst shots, Portraits or the fast recording have a support of 480 fps in 16 MP or 30 fps in 48 MP. By comparison, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 could give support till 14 fps and the company’s own Helio P60 have support till 11 fps.
Mediatek has taken a huge leap in terms of it’s AI performance compared to it’s own Helio P60 and P70 Chipset. Helio P90 comes with the company’s brand new APU 2.0 which is almost five times better in performance compared to previous Chipsets. Mediatek Helio P90 features 1127 GMAC of AI computing power. By comparison, the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 Chipset has 614 GMACs of AI power while Helio P60 has only 260 GMACs power. In simple words, the Mediatek’s Helio P90 has a ton of AI power. It comes with triple ISP design which will give real time notification, bokeh mode and good low light performance.
Mediatek Helio P90 supports a display size of 21:9 aspect ratio having FHD+ display. Mediatek is targeting Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 processor series in the AI stakes. Many phones are set to release with Mediatek Helio P90 processor in the early January. Mediatek has claimed a lot, so let’s see how the new Helio P90 Processor works in real in smartphones.
